Jesus Christ: The Anointed One

This wood sculpture captures the crucifixion of Jesus. The word crucifixion comes from the Latin word "crucifixio," or "crucifixus," meaning "fixed to a cross." Jesus Christ, the central figure of Christianity, died on a Roman cross as recorded in Matthew 27:27-56, Mark 15:21-38, Luke 23:26-49, and John 19:16-37. Christian theology teaches that Christ's death provided the perfect atoning sacrifice for the sins all mankind, thus making the crucifix, or cross, one of the defining symbols of Christianity.

Jesus Christ: In Last Supper

"The last supper" is a pivotal moment in history, and is the story of the last meal Lord Jesus shared with his Twelve Apostles in Jerusalem. After this episode, he was crucified. Lord Jesus says that one of the Apostles will betray him and all twelve of them have different reactions to his announcement- a facet that comes out clearly in this mural painting. Judas ultimately is the one to betray him and his betrayal has a lesson worth remembering each time we look at this painting.
