The tale has it that when Lord Vishnu's wedding was going on, Narada Muni on finding Ganesha alone approached him and told him that he is not invited as he ate a lot. Angered by this, Lord Ganesha ordered his pet mouse to dig a hole in the way of the procession. As planned, the wheels of chariots got stuck in that hole and it became impossible to get them out.
